Need a Little Black Dress?

The Little Black Dress For You

Every woman should own at least one little black dress. No exceptions! We know, though, that finding the right one for your body can be quite a challenge. We're all just a big DOVE commercial, and in the spirit of embracing that, we're gonna show you some dresses that will help you to embrace what your momma gave you! <3

Height

Tall Girl

Tall girls look great in dresses that have simple silhouettes, as opposed to a lot of detail (too many bows or ruffles can look too cutesy). Chose a dress that reflects your longer proportions, such as a dress with a drop-waist.

Petite Girl

Short girls want to choose dresses that elongate. Make sure the dress always hits at or right above the knee. Shift dressed can be really effective.

Figure

Slim Girl

Thin girls can create nice curves by wearing dresses with body of its own (ruching or ruffles, for example). Look to pieces with fuller skirts with a cinched waists.

Curvy Girl

If you want to minimize your tummy, wrap dresses (and horizontal seams or patterns) are your best friends. In addition, look into the miracle that is Spanx. Even celebs like Jessica Alba use them to smooth out their shape!

Chest

Show It Off

Of course, the best way to do so is with a deep, revealing neckline. Just make sure to get the support you need: there are many innovative bras out there now-a-days, designed to keep you in place no matter how low you go!

Minimize It

Wear a dress that has enough room for you to wear a supportive bra. Keep in mind that the most flattering necklines are scoop and v-neck.

Enhance a Small Chest

Look for dresses that have embellishment on the bust area (such as bows or frills) or a sweetheart neckline. (Shiny and sparkly materials (like sequins) also help to create the illusion of a bigger chest.)

Arms

Show Them Off

Go Sleeveless! (If it's colder outside, you can always throw a nice scarf over your shoulders.)

Hide Them

Long or quarter-length sleeves will conceal arms. There are many varieties of sleeves (such as sheer sleeves or sleeves of special material like lace). There are also many types of sleeves, like batwing or cocoon sleeves, so you have a lot of variety to choose from!

Thighs

Show Them Off

Choose a dress with a slit (or slits!) to give them a hint of those killer American Thighs!

Hide Them

Look for dresses that go down to the knee, or hit just above. A-line skirts are always a win. (If you want to show off an hourglass shape, try for a pencil skirt shape instead.)

Love your Back?

Choose a very sexy dress with a low cut back.

Love your Legs?

A mini dress will show off your toned legs! Remember to keep it classy though. ;) One way to do that is to balance the small skirt of the dress with a more conservative top half.

So now you can have confidence, there is a little black dress out there for you. Believe me, you want to have one. A good LBD can be dressed up or down, worn virtually anywhere at anytime: it is an essential wardrobe asset. The One exception being the Little White Dress (LWD), but maybe that's for another post... ;) Happy LBDing!
