I'm sure we all know the feeling of relaxing and partying all weekend only to wake up on Monday and realize that we forgot about our diets and exercise routines. I'm here to bring you inspiration and support to keep track with your healthy lifestyles, or maybe to begin a healthy lifestyle!
I'll be reporting noteworthy tips on eating to keep in mind throughout the week, some tricks to help you stay healthy on the weekends, and some great exercise routines with fun visuals from other sites!
This week I'll be giving some tips on eating fruits the correct way according to Dr. Phil.
Did you know...
- Eating fruit is best on an empty stomach? - it plays a major role in detoxifying your system and supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities this way.
- When you eat fruit after eating another type of food, instead of the fruit just going through the stomach into the intestines to give your body nutrients and energy, it is prevented from doing so and ends up spoiling in your stomach.
- Have you ever felt gassy or bloated after eating a meal and then finishing it with fruit? This gas is caused by the fruit reacting with the spoiling food within your stomach.
- If you want to gain vitamins and nutrients from your fruit, do not cook it. This will destroy everything that is good for you within the fruit. Fresh fruit is best!
- Eating a whole fruit is better for you than drinking fruit juice. The best fruit juice is pure fruit juice because it contains natural sweeteners and still gives you the necessary nutrients. Opt for organic fruit juices if you want the most nutritional content.
- Kiwis: a good source of potassium, magnesium, Vitamin E, and fiber. They have twice the amount of Vitamin C than oranges!
- Apples: low on vitamin C content but have antioxidants and flavonoids which enhance the activity of vitamin C, which helps to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack, and stroke.
- Strawberries: have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits and protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.
- Oranges: help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent and dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.
- Watermelon: packed with glutathione (which helps boost our immune system), a key source of lycopene (the cancer-fighting oxidant), vitamin C, and Potassium.
- Guavas and Papayas: are the top sources for vitamin C. Guavas are rich in fiber and papayas are rich in carotene which is good for your eyes.
Exercise of the Week: Squat Kicks
- Start by squatting.
- Rise up and kick one leg out to the side at hip level.
- Return back to squat position and repeat with opposite leg.
- Do 15 repetitions on each side.
